I'm not sure I understand the question... Let me explain what DAR
does and you can ask additional questions as necessary.

DAR creates what are called 'slice' files. Each slice is sized to the
media you're trying to back up to. For example, say I want to back up
40 Gb of data to DVDs. A DVD holds 4 GB, so I'll need 10 DVDs. DAR
will create a 4GB 'slice' of the total archive, then burn it to dvd,
then create the next 4Gb slice and burn it, and so on.

DAR doesn't do the burning itself - exactly what happens is this - you
start DAR. It creates a slice in /tmp (or wherever you told it to
use), then DAR calls cdrecord (or whatever burning program you tell it
to use). The slice is burned, optionally verified, optionally
deleted, then the next slice is created.

If you choose to use DARomizer with DAR, then as one slice is being
burned and optionally verified, the next slice is being created. It
requires more /tmp space, but greatly reduces the time required for
each slice to be created then burned.

If you're asking if it has to create the entire archive, THEN split it
up and burn it, no - it burns each chunk as it's created, whether you
    use DARomizer or not.

    Did that help?
