    You can "install" mozilla.org's Mozilla into /usr/local without
    disturbing anything that depends on your installed version. However, the
    standard version at mozilla.org ftp is not built using gtk2/xft, while
    your 1.6 is. So, you may not be happy with the fonts in it, either in
    menus or on web pages. It doesn't hurt anything to try. I just ungz mine
    rather than using the installer version.
