    Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the compilation but I can tell you that
    Packman's site has all the mplayer stuff already compiled for 9 (I'm running
    it) and it works really well. I suggest you go that route ...unless you want
    to compile it for the practice. I do that only as a last resort, myself. ;-)
