Hello Chadley:
I alsohave the problem "suse 9.1 is very much slower than any other distro I
have ever installed". My sound also hacks, and even sometimes my mouse
doesn't mouve smooth, and programs reponses get slow. That happened also
wrtting a cd (when starting and finishing mostly), or executting a kde app
when using gnome, or when launching some yast sub-app (sax2 for example,
which is in Hardware > Graphic card & Monitor), launching YOU, etc...
One strange thing is for example that when I execute updatedb (and sound hacks
etc), I can see top reporting low cpu usage (around 15%) but in Kde System
Guard and Gnome System Monitor it goes to 100%! And that missmatch also
happens while exectuing the other mentioned tasks.
I have 256 Mb of Ram and a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU; not as much ram as you,
but certenly enough for those things being happening (and as you said, those
things did never happen to me in Fedora, Mandrake or Gentoo). Note that the
most strage thing to me was is when the mouse mouvement is not smooth because
that did never happen to me in this pc with any other distro. It also is not
smooth when logging out kde.
Are things I related happenning to you? Have you got also a Athlon XP? Which
are the differences between your problem and mine ?
Thanks for your time,
Edulix.
