When I plug in a USB device like a camera under SuSE 9.0, it often takes as
long as five minutes for the device to be detected. Is there a way to
"goose" the detection mechanism so that it will pick up the device
immediately? And (for extra credit) is it possible to do this without using
    root privileges?
