    Hi all,

Just so that this is archived, I couldn't find a similar problem in the
    archives of the list.

After installing 9.1 I was experiencing hard freezes of the total system,
about 5 to 15 minutes after booting. No remote login possible, only reset
would help. I tried YOU (Online Update) but it would fail at random during
download of patches. Crashes would also happen without running YOU. In
hindsight, the fact that I am on a large network with windows NT, XP and Macs
was probably the direct cause for my problems.

I tried installing from different media (CD's instead of DVD) but the same
problems remained. I suspected bad RAM. Strange for a computer that has been
running for 3 years without a problem but anyway after running memtest for
several hours, I ruled out this possibility.

Reading the Security Announcements for the kernel, I hoped that a kernel
update would fix it. However, it is kind of hard to update the kernel through
YOU if it crashes every time the download of the patch is about halfway
    finished.

Finally, I downloaded the kernel update patch on a different OS and
subsequently did a manual install. After that all problems seem solved.
