    AOL has it's place.

    For me, it is for the people I don't want to hold their hand for days /months
    explaining how email actually works.

    For dialup? It is a good excuse for your friend to get broadband. Then they
    can simply use a browser like firefox to login to their AOL account. Last I
    heard, if you remove dialup from the AOL account, you can get everything else
    for $5 a month.
