    Not an answer, but more data. Modprobe doesn't seem to do anything
    either - at least not modprobe -r hw_random. Next boot, it's still
    looking to load the module for the non-existant hardware, 2.6.8-24.3
    and 2.6.9 (from kernel.org) same behaviour. I thought it was me, but
    possibly the module subsystem is munged in recent kernels?
