    Depends on the router! I have a router that if I lose the cable modem (normally the power cord has been kick out of it) the router still gives address's for the internal network. So this would really depend on wether or not it is a straight router, anything that it gets, gets passed throught; or a nat/firewall router, which seperates the two tasks.
