[SLE] Yast software install not working

    Hello,

    I have a machine running 9.1, which has been running fine. In particular
    I have been able to download and install new packages using YaST, and I
    have been able to run YOU.

    I tried to use YaST yesterday to find out whether I had some package
    installed and discovered that 'Install and Remove Software' is broken. I
    can start the Yast control centre and when I click on the I&RS it brings
    up a new window, tells me to wait whilst it scans the packages and then
    sits there indefinitely. If I try to close the window, I get a message
    about the program is not responding (I had to get the silver cross and
    garlic out at that point :)

    and decided my symptoms 'fuzzy matched' close enough to try it. I
    downloaded the popt.rpm but when I run the rpm -Uhv popt.rpm command, it
    too just sits there.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.
