    Mike,

Just my $.02 worth. Go 64 bit. That means AMD. Get the new PCI Express
that is just coming out. Tremendous speed. I recently did this (just
before the PCI Express board was available) Nevertheless, I am still
very, very pleased with the performance. Go with the 939 pin socket for
the AMD. Got to amandtech.com for all kinds of reviews on the hardware
you are considering. Then go to Monarch and check out their "barebones"
combos. (motherboard, cpu, ram) As cheap or cheaper than getting the
    individual components.

PS All your 32 bit applications will work just fine. Then when you
upgrade the OS you can get the 64 bit version.
