I use BRU (Backup and Recovery Utility) from The TOLIS Group
(http://www.tolisgroup.com/). From the command line, it is as easy to
use as tar. It also comes with a GUI frontend which I've not used at
all, so I cannot comment on it. The reason I use it over tar is because
of it's complete data integrity checking. It can use tape/cd/dvd/fs as
it's backup media. It's uses cds/dvds as raw devices (no file system),
so there aren't any file size restrictions that I've hit.

It is a commercial product though. $70 USD or so for the version I
purchased. It was worth the price to me.

    Cheers,
    eric
