    I always do clean installs.... but retain the prev system partitions so I
    can go back to check something or get a file. But I have *never* changed
    the /home partition. Occasionally (very rarely) I've had to blow away the
    ~/.kde directory and start over but not very often.

    As for passwords, best to keep them in a file somewhere.... at least the ones
    that aren't majorly critical.

    Lots of luck. You'll be digging around a lot of esoteric files trying to find
    stuff.
