    Solved it by changing the dpi setting for screen 0. I doubled the
    width setting and restarted X and the font sizes returned to normal.

    Whew... not easy to get this silly thing "working" But it is working now....

    Thanks for all the hints and tips. The combination of them all led to
    the solution.
