    This question would probably be better asked of the Samba list, which
    you can get into on at https://lists.samba.org/mailman/.

    The answer to your first question is that your profiles directory
    (listed in the "path" directive of your "[Profiles]" section) has the
    wrong permissions. It should be owned by root:root, and you should
    do a `chmod 1757 profiles` to set access privileges correctly. More
