i don't really understand your problem,
rpms are like solaris pkg (just better)
you can use .rpm, or .deb files from debian with apt for
rpm based systems.
perhaps you mean using package from the command line instead
of the yast gui ? if that's the problem you can use the "rpm"
and "rpnbuild" command from command line.
you are supposed to launch "SuSEconfig" after the "rpm" commands.
