Sorry James, I just noted your reply...
The odd thing for me is that removing a program would remove things that
have absolutely nothing to do with it. I think this comes from the fact
that a library depends on an end user program. It's even stranger for me
as I don't use Gnome but KDE. those gnome libs are just there because of
dependencies, I presume.
Isn't there any better / softer way to suggest that "dependency"?
