Well, I just tried XSane and got the same results. I tried to test it in that
other OS, but, wouldn't you know, the app that the scanner manufacturer
supplied hangs every time I try to use it. I guess I need to remove the lid
and see if there is something else going on. Certainly, two apps producing
the same results seems to point to the H/W, right?
FWIW, I like XSane's interface much better than Kooka's. It seems to be a bit
more intuitive to me.
