    Well, I don't know anything about the internals of rsync or the glibc but an
    abort means that that the program terminated abnormally.

    Why not?
    Compare the backup files with the original and you will know.

    Well, how important is the backup to you?
    You will have your reason to do it every hour and not once a day.

    A backup that is not valid is useless.
