[SLE] SUSE Watcher unable to connect

I just did a fresh install of 9.3 on a machine at work, and when SUSE
Watcher does its automatic check for new updates, it puts up a dialog
saying it couldn't connect. But if I run the updates manually, it
works fine. Where to look for clues about what is going wrong?
