Thanks, Lee. Very succinct and clear.
I have another suggestion to throw into the mix, but it depends on you, Gil,
having another box to communicate with while you're working on the e-Machine.
I use these locally for remote support, in addition to vnc: Skype (VOIP)
and/or GAIM (Instant Messaging). There's a 'cousin' to GAIM available for the
command line, too, in the event you need to Instant Message and X isn't
available. I have it installed, but I need to look up the name... maybe get
some practice on it first.
Skype is great with a headset since the parties can communicate in real time
while keeping their hands free. This makes it a lot easier for the person
doing the hands-on troubleshooting, since he/she can use a mouse and type
while discussing the process on-line.
GAIM is great, too, but it helps if the person doing the hands-on
troubleshooting can type reasonably quickly and clearly, for obvious reasons.
I'm up to it if you are, Gil... Stan... Lee... sure would make things go a lot
faster and it'd probably be a lot less frustrating, Gil. Of course, it's late
now, so it would have to be tomorrow.
Alright, I've thrown that out for discussion and now I'm off to bed. G'night!
I'll catch up in the a.m.
