    What software are you referring to? I'm curious.

    What have you tried?

    As an alternative to trying to read the FAT, you could search the media by
    file header, such as with foremost -- in conjunction with The Sleuthkit and
    Autopsy. If the data is valuable, then consider investing in SMART.
