Dear all,
"Getting Windows to be as intelligent as Linux" - okay I know this is
probably not going to be possible within some millionaire's lifetime,
but hey, I stand a better chance of getting an answer here rather than
on a Windows forum (see P.S).
If I got this right from my dad, here goes the story:
He installed Win 98 on his system. He created a new FAT partition on
hdb after that. (hda had three Windows-recognizable partitions.) So
his hdb1 got named H, (C to E for three vfat-s on hda and F and G for
two optidrives - which were all recognized and allotted drive letters
on Win 98 setup).
After this, he installed Win XP to dual-boot with Win 98 (actually,
quad-boot with Linux and BSD, but Win XP doesn't know that) but now
Win XP detected all the hd partitions first, and assigned the
optidrives drive letters *after that*, so hdb1 now got called F, and
the optidrives G and H. (I might be mixing up a few minor details, but
the general idea stays...)
Now is there any way to kick some sense into Windows and make it show
a partition for what it is, the first partition on the first drive,
and so on, like in Linux using hda? hdb? etc...? Okay, I can't expect
Windows to forgo its drive lettering system, but at least can I bully
it into displaying them in the correct *order*? I want all hd
partitions to come before the optidrives in the drive letter
sequences.
P.S:
One of the biggest things I like about Linux and its community:
1. Linux reads Windows partitions while not vice versa
2. Linux boots Windows partitions while not vice versa
3. Linux reads Windows file formats while not vice versa
4. Linux knows Windows, while not vice versaa.
P.P.S: (I was wondering if I should have sent this to OT, but this is
not a non-technical question so...)
