    Mates,

Just installed a DVD burner to replace a cd burner. I am actually
starting to use Linux as a desktop instead of simply as a server. One of my
needs is for regular user to be able to access the DVD drive to rip the
deposition videos from the DVDs so they can be edited for trial
presentation. I can access the DVD just fine as root, by not as a regular
user. I have tried adding users to every conceivable group in /etc/group,
    but it still doesn't work.

        Two issues:

        (1) How do I set privileges so I can give non-root users access to
DVD's? Like to use kaffine, mplayer, DVD::rip, etc..

        (2) Why doesn't the DVD get mounted under /media/cdrecorder or some
other fixed mount point?? Instead links are created under /media according
to the DVD volume label. I just want a fixed dvdrecorder or cdrecorder under
/media. Below, you can see that all of the old DVD labels are still under
    /media.

    david@rankin-xp:~> ll /media
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-07-06 15:53 cdrecorder
    drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2005-09-29 07:55 floppy
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-09-19 11:22 Froebel__1
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-09-19 11:28 Froebel__2
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-07-11 12:06 idedisk
    drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2005-09-29 15:25 SONY_DVD_RECORDER_VOLUME

I recall earlier posts that described why this works this way and how to
fix it, but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.
