[SLE] Unable to complete install of 9.3 (Athlon 64 bit)

    Hi, everyone. Sure hope you can help solve this perplexing problem.

    New motherboard, new processor, new video card, new hard drive, but
    something's not right.

    MSI NEO4 Platinum MB
    Athlon 64 FX 3200+ processor
    EVGA GeForce 6800GT PCI-e video card
    Seagate Barracuda 250 GB IDE hard drive

    Memory is 2 X 512 MB of PC2100 DDR266 RAM which the board accepts.

    We go through the entire install process and everything seems to be going
    along OK. But then when everything is configured and SuSE is supposed to go
    to a desktop we have problems.

    The first time or two it started to go to the desktop but never completed. As
    soon as you tried to move the mouse the system froze.

    The next few times we tried it never got to the desktop, rather it froze where
    the screen goes black (and "X" appears on screen).

    In either case the system freezes and you have to reboot. Then the same thing
    happens.

    We've tried installing over and over without success.

    Also tried a different video card -- Geforce 5500FX PCI (**not** PCI-e) but
    the same problem except that it never gets to the desktop. (We did change the
    BIOS from PCI-e to PCI.)

    The last time the system locked we could not even power-down the pooter with
    the power switch. Had to reset and then power down.

    Other than waiting for SuSE 10.0 what suggestions might you have to get this
    new system usable?
