In your modem settings in Yast there will be an option for you to set "Idle
Time-Out (in seconds)". Set that to -0-. This will prevent the system from
    shutting down your connection.

There are only 2 other areas to check if that doesn't do the trick:

    - Your modem init string should have settings to prevent disconnect. Read
through your modem manual to find all of the items you could add/alter/delete
from your init string that has to do with the disconnect. (Use great caution
here if you don't know what your doing. You could accidently rewrite the
factory settings on the card itself. If you make the adjustments in the init
string portion in Yast you'll be okay.

    - Your ISP may not like you to stay connected beyond a certain time and they
will shut down the connection. After altering everything on my system, the
longest I was able to stay on was 5 hours before my ISP bumped me from their
    side.
