[SLE] mount error: invalid argument (smbfs)

In 9.3 with 2.6.11.4-21 kernel /var/log/messages tells me "kernel:
smbfs: Unrecognized mount option noauto" when I try to mount this samba
share manually. To mount the share, I must edit fstab to remove the
noauto option, mount, then put it back after mounting so that it won't
automount on a reboot. Mandriva 2006 with 2.6.12 kernel gives me no such
foolishness with the exact same fstab entry, "... smbfs
ro,fmask=664,noauto 0 0". How can I fix this?
