Hi Ryan, I just went through a round of this with another user and solved the
problem. If you use the SaX2 walkthrough you should know that the ¨-r¨ flag
doesn´t work with the latest ATi drivers.

As per SuSE the command should be:

sax2 -r -m 0=fgrlx -b /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profile/firegl

The -r flag tells sax to re-init the monitor database, but this is not working
as it did in earlier versions.

What we found is the using ¨-x¨ (xmode) or ¨-V¨ [ --vesa ] cause it to either
read the monitors DDC or similar or revert to standard X mode mod lines.

This solves the problem for most of us so far. It would be something along the
lines of:

sax2 -V -m 0=fgrlx -b /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profile/firegl

or

sax2 -x -m 0=fgrlx -b /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profile/firegl

So, one would use the ATi installer then back out of init 5 to init 3, call up
sax as above and it will write the file to /etc/X11/XF86Config instead of
XF86Config-4 as the ati fglrxconfig does by default. If you still insist on
using the fglrxconfig then just refuse to save the file (think it asks 2 or 3
times) and then it ask what (as in name) do you want to save the file to.
You can then tell it to save the file as XF86Config and copy this file
to /etc/X11. This may or may not work... some have had success while others
have not. But using SaX2 with either -x or -V (make sure this is CAPS) will
get you setup. You can then edit this file to put in other option like FSAA
or ansiotropic settings, et al.

HTH, Curtis.
