I'm not sure if you can do this, if you can it'll help distinguish
between hardware and connection problems. Go into the DSL modems setup
(is this some sort of switch? all of my dsl modems didn't have any
setup on them, just hardware.), and set up the info for your dsl
service, and see if it behaves the same way. If it doesn't connect, then
you haven't actually ruled anything out.

Thing is, I'm not sure if you guys down there can do this. Up here in
the Great White North there are very few Telco's so if you've got
several dsl providers in one area, they're running through the one
telco's switching system and lines, and you can use your dsl on some one
elses line providing they are set up to have dsl in the first place.
