Ditto here, ogg files at same sizes as mp3 give much fuller sound.
But might I suggest that when all of us (linux) shop for "mp3" players
we make manufacturers aware of the ogg format, and insist they NOT use
Windows Media Player version "x" to do what simple drag n drop can do.
I constantly get told that w/o the media player they can NOT have files
recognized by whatever (software) player they are using.. which BTW is
NOT media player but something that someone has written for them.
And most of the guys who answer my enquiry tell me that encoding at
higher than 96 is really hifi. THey must all have blown ears.. cause it
sounds compressed or muddy to me even at 128... Oggs at that same rate
are better.. but still not really what you would call "hifi" or
"lifelike" which is the other word that gets tossed at me in these
discussions.
Just had the last company tell me they were 'only' using media player to
keep track of rights management for things downloaded from itunes etc.
I have insisted that job is best done by whatever host OS is on the
computer.. but am getting a lot of "just plug it into a windows box
and use USB connection and Media Player and it "plays for sure" ..
It's enough to drive one to an ipod.. but I don't like that idea either.
Iriver isn't planning to make any more players w/ ogg on them.. nor are
they interested in making any of the so called hard disk types useable
under linux. Even if they don't have to do anything other than NOT use
MediaPlayer for transfer/cataloging of music files on the damned thing.
It's enough to make ya crazy!
