I could be wrong, but if the boot loader is lilo "splash=0" may just stop
the boot selection graphics. In a previous thread, Ken suggested running
'mkinitrd' after making the above mentioned modifications. That worked.
Since I use lilo as my boot loader, I also ran '/sbin/lilo' to update its
image.
