Okey dokey, I have sorted that little problem. Firstly, the board is
a QDI BrillianX2 running a Pentium III (still not 100% sure of the
speed because this was given to me last Xmas to play with). It is a
P1440BX/BX2
Now, how I solved the problem. Time for a big DOH!!! on my part. I
was going to flash the BIOS - in case an update sorted things. While
THIS IS WHAT I DID NOT UNDERSTAND :::::
I was in there I checked the drive parameters. Lo and behold Primary::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Master was set to LBA. I set it to AUTO and BINGO!!! It has boot
lovely with no problems :-))))))
why Primary Master set to LBA cause that error, and how did changing it
to AUTO fix it,
if somebody could explain..i would learn a few things

I thought it would have been unusual as the original BIOS was dated as
1999 and this should have had support for larger drives at that time.
As indeed it does.
Thank you for the help. That wiki is excellent by the way, cheers.
Now, has it recognised my ISA Creative Soundblaster card ;-)
