I know there is a website on the internet where you can fill in the specs
and then it creates a downloadable .vmx file that can be used by VMplayer.

According to the Xen web site, no - not at this time.

VMware workstation is reasonable priced and works fine.

And VMware server is free and works fine also.

When did THAT go free??? I must have missed the announcement - thanks
for the heads up!!!

VMware Viewer is also free but will not allow you to create hosts. The
server version (GSX?) in beta is currently free and supposedly will
continue to be free.
