[SLE] KDE Service Module and mediamanager are turned off

In the KDE Control Center the Service Manager module is greyed out. The error
message is: Unable to contact KDED.

The 'My Computer' desktop icon gives this error message: The KDE mediamanager
is not running.

/media/dvdrecorder says No Items - No Files - No Folders.

I recently updated KDE using Yast.

How can I get the Service Manager module and mediamanager running again?
