Not only that... the rpm is just for a JRE and not the JDK. I need the
JDK in order to do software development. In some cases I have to test
against the next version of Java from Sun. Therefore having a clean
mechanism of getting the rpm from Sun, setting a simple config to
include the new distro, run the config and then be able to select
which JDK to use on the fly would be the optimal solution.


http://en.opensuse.org/Java does not provide a real solution.

Yes, true, but it does not solve the classpath and ${JAVA | JDK}_HOME
problem. both are needed by NetBeans and Eclipse, for example.
