Re: [SLE] what do you back-up and how?

Hi,

What you could do is setup a mirror drive and then tar your
daily files that get modified.

Hi everybody

I'd like to know how you manage your backing-up:
- what do you back-up
- and how? (on what media, using what programs, how do
you keep track?)

I backup my temp downloads dir (things like other
distros), and my home directory, as well as exporting
copies of my book marks (I tend to email myself my address
books), the usual stuff.

But I have absolutely no backup of settings, system
parts or what ever might
be necessary when e.g. my system-disc crashes. I don't
even have an idea
_what_ would be of use to back-up, how and what to
keep up-to-date, and: how
to re-use it in the bad case...

I too have been wondering about setting up a system like
this (especially after I did a no no, see the off topic
list). Years ago, with Windows, I messed with drive image
and partition magic. But I seemed to find a better
method for me. Now in Linux, I don't have to go hunting
for drivers and such, so while it seems better just to do
a fresh install/security update, then reinstall my data, I
am unsure of the time difference between that and
replacing the image. I will be watching this thread and
may have to try some suggestions on an old test machine.
Thanks
