What's going wrong? Where should I look?
It's an elusive bug, I'm tracking it too. It has something to do with a
compilation option. Hard to kill.
See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39537.
Kmail saves the attachment to /tmp/kde-me/long-number then launches the Open
with... app with that temp file as an argument. The process goes wrong when
the app (usually OpenOffice) takes a year and a day to start, the user clicks
on another mail, and the tempfile is cleaned up. Then OO.o scratches its
head.
Although there was a fix added, it was later reverted (see BR above) - however
I can't reproduce this behaviour any more (on 10.1 here) so there may have
been another fix that isn't mentioned in the BR.
Links within emails are the worst.
If I accidentally click one,
damn Konqueror goes into a loop, opening endlessly.
I have to either use ps and a perl script to kill them all off,
or else log out of KDE; to get back to a usable desktop.
This should not happen. Try creating a test user and see if it does the
same. You might want to recreate your profile anew and move your data to
your new home directory.
What link? Any link? If it's a particular link that makes Konq freak out,
please let me know which link it is so I can forward it to the Konq/JS team.
How do I get firefox to open them and not loop.
Control Center->KDE Components->Component Chooser->Web Browser (or alt-f2
kcmshell componentchooser), click the [...], navigate to Firefox in the
Internet group.
