I am encountering something kinda odd and thought perhaps someone on
this list could assist me. The problem is in the static IP assigned to
an add-in card keeps flip flopping on restarts to either eth1 or eth2.
I am running SuSE 9.3 fully patched. Thanks.
This is normal with 9.3 unless you use PERSISTENT_NAME in the
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-id-* for the two adaptors. (It is
fixed in 10.0 and you do not need PERSISTENT_NAME) What I did was use
the name 'wan' for my DSL adaptor, and 'lan' for my lan-side adaptor.
Looked like this:
BOOTPROTO='dhcp'
PERSISTENT_NAME='wan'
MTU=''
NAME='Winbond Electronics W89C940'
REMOTE_IPADDR=''
STARTMODE='auto'
UNIQUE='JNkJ.LMxfBdVBMX9'
USERCONTROL='no'
_nm_name='bus-pci-0000:00:09.0
[end quote]
yours will differ (of course)
