[SLE] emails disappeared

Hi,
I am using Suse 9.1 and thunderdird as my email program.
This morning, when I opened thunderbird, all of my emails for the last
year or so had disappeared - not in trash - nowhere to be found.
I upgraded (online update) yesterday.
I don't have them on backup.
Anybody any ideas how I could recover them?
