Do you have Xgl installed?
Have you recently installed new video drivers?
What is your video card or controller?
If you have not installed new video hardware or software, boot up in
failsafe mode. Log in as root. Run:
sax2
Usually accept the video recommendation that Sax makes and everything is
fine. If you have just installed the proprietary video drivers for ATI or
nVidia, you probably need to reinstall them following the instructions
from the manufacturer.

Your best bet is to go to:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

and download the newest proprietary driver. The install program does most of
the work. The only hitch is that you have to reinstall the driver if you
upgrade the kernel. If you did a software update install from 10.0 to 10.1,
this is probably the source of the problem. Under 10.0 the nVidia driver
could be left alone during upgrades. Now you have to reinstall it because
Suse did not want to include the proprietary driver with the main software
package.
