Re: [SLE] Problems with SMP kernel. was: Major problems with SUSE10.1 after a clean install and update

Ok, I'm running 2.6.16.21-0.13-smp
Can you tell me something that will make it fail?
For me, all I have to do is simply install the latest SMP (32 bit)
kernel as provided by the Zen updater. If I do that, my computer
ceases to function "normally" and I start getting all that weird
behaviour that I've described (random hibernates, insane keyboard
repeat problems, monitor turning off after 2 to 7 seconds, computer
stalling 1 second every 3 seconds, etc.).
I've updated everything (using Smart and the 3rd party repositories)
except the kernel now and it's functioning perfectly. As soon as I
install the new Kernel version (and reinstall the same nVidia video
driver) and restart, it all falls apart. I roll back to the previous
SMP kernel (the one on the 10.1 DVD), reinstall the nVidia video
driver) and it's back to normal.
I have no idea how to provide useful feedback... beyond simple
descriptions of the behaviour. The messages logs don't report
anything unusual... yet the computer is unusable.
OK, I know I can skip this new kernel verion and wait for the next
(which is what I'm doing), but...
C.
