console yast) almost all packages fail with an error saying i must
"rebuild the database". But... what database? How? i'm assuming it's an
rpm db, but... WTF??? A useless error message. Of course, i can't paste
in the complete output from the error because it's on my laptop
console.

Try running, as root

rpm --rebuilddb
