Then systems would perform.
Not *always*, but if you're developing a software management system that
is designed to be used worldwide on slow connections, shouldn't you, you
know, actually try it out on a slow connection to see if it works OK?
I know you're trying to make a point about bloat and waste, but
honestly, I like my machine to look nice. Everything would be faster if
it was written in assembly, but it would take forever to get anything
actually programmed and you can forget portability.
