[SLE] Kernel version

Yesterday I installed a new kernel: "Linux version 2.6.5-7.276-default
(geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)) #1 Mon Jul 24
10:45:31 UTC 2006" is what dmesg says which I read as being built
as of 7-24-2006. I am looking for an updated rtl8150.c network driver
that contains a section for a ZyXEL USB ethernet device.
I thought that it was included in the 7-24 build since it is included in
2.6.18-rc2 of 7-15-2006. Do I just not understand the process? On a
related note, what kernel version can I run in my Suse 9.1 system? I
show the highest number available to be 2.6.5-7.276 for 9.1. What
happens if I try to install the 2-6-18 kernel? Will the system hose up?
