Yes.
I have one of those External Hard disk enclosures as a back up device
for my Laptops. It has both Firewire and USB2.
I use BRU as a backup software.
One of my laptops only has USB 1, the other has USB 2, and both
have Firewire.
On the machine with USB 1, I always have to drag out the firewilre
cable, because usb1 is hopeless.
On the other, the usb2 outperforms the firewire. Not dramatically, but
testing it with a full disk backup via BRU, firewire took (as I recall) 22
minutes for firewire, and 18 for USB 2.
Its like the raving arguments about realtec Nics, with all the wringing
of hands and gnashing of teeth over the fact that the 812x series required
assist from the CPU. Oh the woe, oh the horror.
Personally, if my processor is so over taxed that I might begrudge the extra
cycles, its way past time to upgrade.
