I agree with Joe. Here's my, maybe bad, method.
First stop:
http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories
Next: Start Yast>Installation Source
Hint: I use the copy/paste method to add the repos so I don't make
stupid finger mistakes.
Add [ at a minimum ] Guru [ The skynet mirror ] and packman [ I use the
first USA mirror at unixheads ] and any other repos that you think look
good to you.
Second stop:
Software Management.
Down at the bottom it has a check box to autcheck dependencies, click it.
Below the search box there are some check box's. Click "Provides" for sure.
In the search box type "dvd" [ without the quotes of course ] and hit
enter.
In the right pane anything in blue is an upgrade, click the little box
and it will change to this funny image thing. That's a good thing, as
Martha would say. While your there kind of look around for anything else
that tickles your fancy.
If you installed from a DVD have it in the drive.
Click on the button at the lower right [ can't remember what it says off
the top of my head ] Box pops up with dependencies. Click "Continue".
Go smoke a cigarette [ if you smoke that is ], have a cup of coffee,
visit the "little" room, whatever, while it does it's thing.
Thanks for the step by step. I followed your directions and was able to add
the GURU and Packman sources to YAST. I then did the search as you
suggested and clicked each item marked with a blue check mark to get it
re-updated. The update started and showed that it was getting updates from
the CD and from packman. However, when I put in the DVD and select "Play
DVD with Kaffeine", I still get the same error as before -- "The version of
Xine (used with Kaffeine) has only a reduced set of supported codecs. It is
not able to play DVDs. ...". I would think that maybe there's some
additional package I need to install, but there are so many on that page
that came up that I had no idea which ones to pick. The only one I selected
was w32codec_all, thinking Microsoft might be involved in the security
aspect of these DVDs and that that might fix it. Oh well, at least I now
have packman installed as a source. Surely I must be close to getting this
working. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Greg Wallace
