[opensuse] local network to ADSL router not available after boot - manual reconfiguration needed

Hi!

I have a perplexing problem connecting to my ADSL router and local network.

After every boot I have to use YasT to reconfigure network device, that is to say - delete it - press next etc. Card is then shown in Yast as not configured.

Then I have to use YasT to configure it anew with DHCP setting, (and choose cable connect on the general tab). When YasT has configured everything, the command ifconfig gives the correct set of details and I can indeed connect to internet via router.

But after rebooting, the network is again not available. After boot, command ifconfig yields a strange address 169.254.36.45 for eth0.
I have to then repeat the above YasT procedure of deleting and then reconfiguring network card as described to have a connection.

If I choose boot on the general tab, then this does not work either.

If I do not delete the configuration first with YasT, but just edit the configuration, then I do not get a IP-address assigned via DHCP, and cannot connect to network. ifconfig gives no IP-address for eth0.

Thanks for any tip what to look for in which config files. I tried to locate other config files relevant for boot process which might contain contradictory info - no real success.

I had a look at the help page on en.opensuse.org/SDB on ADSL router, which makes perfect sense to me. Suggestions for other documents also welcome.

I also tried approach with static addresses, but essentially same problems arose - it worked after many YasT interventions, back and forth, but never after reboot.

Oh, before I forget - Firewall is always OFF at present to avoid interference.

Thanks to any brave soul answering!! ;-)

Peter
