I need to redo my linux server an need to move the data files to a windows

read only an things did not run right when opening them from the network
share on the workstations. Has anyone ran into this problem an know the fix
for it. I have tried to marks the files on the windows server from read
only to no read only and I still get the same problems. When you go to open
files from the network share its says they are read only an they cannot be
modified / changed.
I need to run my server off of the windows server till I get the linux
server back up and running again ( a week at the most if all goes as
planned).

You are trying to go the wrong way, your supposed to move from Windows
to Linux.
The probelm with going from Linux to Windows is that you will loose all the
permissions on the files. Windows has no idea about the groups:
user
group
other
So what you will find in moving the files back is that nothing will be as it
was before. I guess I do not understand why it is going to take you a
week to upgrade the server. I would suggest these steps:

1. Have all the new disks purchased and ready to go.
2. Backup all data, tape would be best, you should be doing this already.
3. Update the bios
4. Install the new disks
5. Restore the data

Your done and should not have taken more then 24 hours.

Another way is to have a second file server you can move all the data to.

Do not go to Windows, you will hate yourself and life later!!!!!!!!
