I"m trying to help a friedn set up his computer on 10.2. He has a
Canon MP600R printer, scanner, kitchen sink. It's set up as a network
device, and connected to his router. We've setup network printing
(using the Canon 4200 driver) and it works perfectly.
The next step is the scanner. It is also a network device. I know
the IP address of the scanner/printer (used it to configure the
printer) but...... I don"t really know how to set up the scanner as a
network device. The YAST scanner setup has an option to enable or use
a network scanner, but it seems to be expecting a scanner daemon
running on another server.... whatever the Canon scanner is doing, it
seems that it isn't providing the right answer back...
Has anyone else played with network scanners?
Yes, but I am afraid, they are from HP. But they work, especially the HP
kitchen sink devices.
and maybe got the
scanner on the Canon MP600R working?
No.
Anyway, either Canon supplies a driver for network scanning (like HP
does) or you find a possibility to connect the device locally to a
computer (most probably via usb), make scanning working there with sane
and finally use sane via the network.
Kind regards
