With the very obvious caveat that Picasa on Linux is a wine app and looks and
feels a bit alien... but if it's what you're used to on Windows it's
definitely an option for Linux.
I used Digikam, and it worked out very well. I had about 500 pictures
of Canada and Alaska. The other aspect that I need to do is to put the
pictures up on a photo sharing site, such as Google or Yahoo.
